The “A to Z of Boy Bands” is a new post series we are going to have on The Fangirling Life where we go letter by letter, talking about boy bands. Each post will include three people, songs, etc. that start with the letter.
“Cover Girl” is one of New Kids on the Block’s most popular songs – especially for Donnie (Wahlberg) girls. It’s a song that Donnie sings lead on and really one of the few, especially from back in the early NKOTB days.
The song was released in 1989 and was the fifth single from their hit album, “Hangin’ Tough.” Most non-Blockheads tend to forget about this song, but it went to No. 2 on Billboard Hot 100 chart.
And Donnie used to take his shirt off during it. *sigh*
Color Me Badd
Color Me Badd was formed in Oklahoma, the most unlikely place for boy bands, in 1985 and hit it big in the early 1990s with their first single, “I Wanna Sex You Up,” which was on the “New Jack City” movie soundtrack.
CMB’s debut album, “C.M.B” was released in 1991 and had the follow up singles “I Adore Mi Amor” which went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. In 1992, the group appeared in an episode of “Beverly Hills 90210” which involved Donna, David and Kelly searching for the group in a hotel to meet them.
After releasing two more albums, CMB disbanded in 1998, but got back together in 2010 and has since been touring with the “I Love the ’90s” tour with Vanilla Ice and Salt-N-Pepa.
“Celebrity” is the third album that NSync released and their final album of new content. The album was released in 2001 and sold 1.87 million copies in the first week. The album’s first single, “Pop,” was released two months prior and was written by Justin Timberlake and dancer Wade Robson, who it was rumored that Britney Spears cheated with.
The album also gave us “Gone,” which a lot consider to be Justin Timberlake’s first taste of solo success considering he performed the song all by himself with just backing from the other four members of the group.
