Guest Post: ‘Boy Band’ Finale Review: More than a singing reality show but In Real Life

What an incredible way to start off the finale for Boy Band, with the Architects and host, Rita Ora, showcasing how it gets done with enthralling medley live performances on stage!

Timbaland only proved all the more to be the mastermind producer in hit songs, with his intro production number, 10-yr-old, “The Way I Are”. Even a decade old, the hip-hop, electric beat still captivates audiences of today. Not every boyband in the entertainment scene has a solid rapper. Michael Connor is going to be the great asset that he is with his jaw-dropping rapping skills, jamming along with Timbaland and Rita Ora.
Emma Bunton, with the Boy Band contenders, sashayed with Spice Girls’ chart-topper, “Say You’ll Be There”. Knowing from the very beginning that Emma has a soft spot for Chance Perez, it was enticingly thrilling to see him have a special moment with Emma by getting down on his knees to charm her. Not that she needed to be charmed because since day one, Chance already made quite a lasting impression, not only to Emma but to everyone.

Can I just say how it gave me indescribable pure delight to see the Backstreet Boys saunter onstage? Nick Carter ramped his way with macho demeanor. AJ McLean laid the bass for kick off. The Frick and Frack moments with Brian Littrell surely brought happy smiles to fans of their bond. Even struggling with his voice, B-Rok still always gives it his best and never misses a beat. When the camera zoomed on him, didn’t the cowboy hat ghetto with Kevin Richardson bring back memories with “More Than That?” Because it certainly did for me! It was saucy of Nick to pull of his sexy dance moves. How Nick drawled with the line “make it understand” oozed with hotness. Nick’s vocals keep becoming stronger with more Backstreet years. Howie Dorough engaged the audience to “throw your hands up in the air.” Just when you thought BSB were going to keep it low without much of the choreography, the Backstreet Boys lit up the dance floor and catapulted it with their signature “Everybody” dance move and hit that high note together with “Alright” for an encore.

Rita Ora got me addicted to “Your Song.” I have been a fan of her since “I Will Never Let You Down.” Upon first listen, I was enamored with Rita’s talent and knew right away that she will achieve stardom that she now enjoys.

I was hoping James Arthur would sing “Say You Won’t Let Go”, an absolute favorite of mine and sure enough, he did! Coming from his success as UK’s X Factor 2012 winner, James garnered more fans with the American Boy Band viewers by showing what raw singing abilities he has.

For those who do not know, James sang Tulisa’s “Young” for his audition. For finals night, he did an astounding rendition of Shontelle’s “Impossible.” The auditions that the Boy Band contestants did will forever be marked as what launched the stepping stone to their music career.  Even up to now, Nick Carter still fondly remembers his audition song for Backstreet Boys with Richard Marx’s “Take This Heart.”  The final solo performances that the boys did to gain the votes they needed to be chosen and become part of In Real Life have left that stamp in everyone’s memory to be lifelong fans of the new group.

Drew Ramos will be the sweet favorite of many as Mama’s boy with his charming appeal. Sergio Calderon is the smooth, tender voice of the Latin lover in the group. “Eyes Closed” has a catchy and fun, easy-going rhythm. You will find yourself singing along. Although, the line “you’re beautiful” reminds me a tiny bit of One Direction song, even right now, with their first ever single, they are setting off the sparks to out beat them. Not only as a Greek-god image, Brady Tutton has the vocal chops to deliver. With Chance, the daddy heartthrob and Michael’s rare talent in boy bands with his mad rap, In Real Life showed how real these members are in life as seen by all who kept their eyes on Boy Band. This is only the beginning. We have a lot more to hear from In Real Life. Keep your ears open on what’s to come!
