Happy birthday, Harry Potter!
I’m a little late to being a Potterhead.
Well, a lot late. I didn’t become a Harry Potter fan until around Christmas this past year so, basically, I became a Harry Potter fan in its 19th year of existence.
But nonetheless, I’m a fan. I’m a fan who hasn’t read the books. I know, shoot me, but I’ve watched all the movies and own them all. I have Harry Potter socks and I have a Gryfindor T-shirt. (Team Gryfindor!)
It’s kind of like people finding Backstreet Boys late in their life. I’ve found Harry Potter the same way. I wish I was into it when the movies were coming out, but I’m here now.
I like to think of myself as Harry a little. While I have my mother, I never had my father (not for the same reason), and I always had that hanging over my head. I always had a girl and boy best friend as a kid. I always seemed to have the “bad side” of life trying to pull me closer, like Harry with Voldermort. And like Harry, I had to over come a lot of things.
So on this 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book being released in the U.K., I say happy birthday, Mr. Potter.
And Dobby has a sock. Dobby is a free elf.
